The Ambassador in the Soviet Union (Harriman) to the Secretary of State

3588. Personal for the Secretary. My 3558, October 16.13 Molotov called me to the Kremlin this afternoon and read to me from a message he had received from Stalin. Stalin said he would receive me with pleasure at Sochi where he is on leave in order to receive the message from the President and to discuss it with me. He suggested the 24th, 25th or 26th of October. I replied the sooner the better and we settled on October 24.

Molotov has placed a plane at my disposal and I plan to take Page14 to interpret and a communications officer so that I can communicate with you through the Embassy if it proves necessary.
