The Secretary of State to the Ambassador in Uruguay (Dawson)

Washington, May 10, 1944—8 p.m.

254. The Department has just been informed by the War Department that transfer directives were issued on May 4 assigning to the Uruguayan authorities under Lend-Lease considerable quantities of military ground equipment including machine guns, automatic rifles, anti-tank guns, light tanks, trucks, ammunition and shells etc.

An itemized list, setting forth the types and quantities involved, is being sent you by airgram.26
