The Ambassador in El Salvador (Thurston) to the Secretary of State
[Received April 4—11:52 a.m.]
104. With the other members of the Diplomatic Corps I have just visited President Martínez in the central police barracks. He stated that all organized resistance has ended with the exception of that in the barracks of the second infantry which he expects to overcome within a few hours.
I felicitated him upon the reestablishment of order.
The badly led uprising has resulted in moderate loss of life and some property damage the most notable being the destruction by fire of almost an entire block of residence and business buildings in the center of the city.
