510. British Embassy here has informed Department of telegraphic correspondence between your British colleague and Foreign Office in connection with passage of German ships through Straits and relation of protest on this development to exchange of notes referred to in Department’s 494, June 1. Department assumes that you will act in concert with your British colleague and take no independent action with respect to exchange of notes until his existing instructions have been confirmed or altered. In latter case Department will promptly instruct you.
