The Minister Resident in Saudi Arabia (Moose) to the Secretary of State

116. Department’s 65, April 18, 9 p.m. It would be of interest to know substance of London’s 3073 April 15, noon, which was not repeated here.82

Telling King that, if he so desires President is ready to name military adviser might be useful. If King desires, adviser designation of officer becomes detail; if not, refusal might set a useful precedent should question again arise.

In my opinion subject of financial adviser should not now be discussed other than to say that if King would like Americans in advisory capacity Government would give sympathetic consideration to any request. Specific proposal for financial adviser might be considered when plans for increased financial aid to Saudi Arabia take more definite shape.

Colonel Eddy will accompany me to Riyadh and no objection is perceived if he wishes to remain there or to return a second time. He is willing to accept post as military adviser.
