505. Department’s 407 dated July 4. After consulting with General Ridley who requested that matter be held up one week until his progress report (based on report to Washington dated May 3121) had been presented to and read by Iranian Government, I have now handed an aide-mémoire to Prime Minister setting forth War Department’s [Page 421] wishes respecting withdrawal Ridley Mission as of November 1, 1944. Saed promised to take up question with Council of Ministers and let me know immediately his Government’s wishes.
