The Director of the Office of Near Eastern and African Affairs (Murray) to the Counselor of the British Embassy (Wright)

My Dear Michael: Thank you very much for your letter of July 1, 1944 regarding the Millspaugh situation.

I am happy to say that the question appears to have been resolved for the moment. The Iranian Government refused to accept Dr. Millspaugh’s resignation and the Majlis has now agreed not to raise the question of reducing Dr. Millspaugh’s powers for a period of three or four months. Please convey to Mr. Eden our warm thanks for his friendly suggestion and inform him that we shall not hesitate to take advantage of his kind offer of assistance should this prove desirable at a later date.

Sincerely yours,

Wallace Murray
