The Chargé in Iran (Ford) to the Secretary of State

474. Millspaugh informs me Prime Minister yesterday expressed to Majlis his confidence United States Mission and supported Millspaugh proposal that question of economic powers be allowed to rest 3 or 4 months to give time for results of mission’s operations to become visible. Majority of Majlis was favorable and Millspaugh regards immediate crisis as past and that he has won victory.

In view of this classification [clarification?] of status of road transport directors am authorizing resumption of Lend Lease deliveries.18

  1. The Chargé had temporarily held in abeyance the delivery of unpaid for Lend-Lease goods then in Iran awaiting delivery to the Iranian Government; he had taken this action on his own initiative in connection with another matter involving technical considerations and unrelated to policy matters.
