740.00119 European Advisory Commission/60: Telegram
The Ambassador in the United Kingdom (Winant) to the Secretary of State
[Received 6:06 p.m.]
632. Comea 17. The British have heard from their Embassy at Washington that a new scheme is under advisement there for the treatment of the French civil affairs question, and that this scheme would make unnecessary the clearance of the existing “basic scheme” by the Advisory Commission (see my 544, January 20, 9 p.m., Comea 1642).
They have therefore dropped their intention of bringing the existing paper before the Commission at the next meeting, and are awaiting further clarification of the matter.
- Not printed. This telegram stated that the British wished to bring the document entitled “Civil Affairs in France” before the next meeting of the European Advisory Commission; the Ambassador requested further instructions on the subject (740.00119 European Advisory Commission/56).↩
