The Shahanshah of Iran (Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi) to President Roosevelt

Knowing that Your Excellency follows the course of events in Iran with close attention I have pleasure in informing you that my Government taking into consideration the principles of the Atlantic Charter with which we are in complete agreement and of which we desire to benefit on a footing of equality with the other nations of the world have signed a treaty of alliance with Great Britain and the USSR. In appending our signature to this document we rely upon the goodwill and the friendship which binds the United States to Iran and feel confident that your traditional attitude towards the basic principles involved will ensure the fulfillment of the pledges given and reserving for my country and people a brighter future of peaceful development within our borders.
