The Chargé in the United Kingdom (Johnson) to the Secretary of State

198. From Myron Taylor. The British have informed us that they have committed themselves to the Polish Government to propose at the forthcoming meeting to extend the scope of the Committee’s activity to include the persons, approximately 11,000 in number, who [Page 89] were forced to cross the frontier by Germany and have been living on the frontier ever since. The British point out that there is a precedent for extending the scope in this case in that the Committee’s mandate was extended to include persons from the Sudetenland. They hope that we will raise no objection to their proposal and will support it. Please instruct. [Myron Taylor.]
