120. Following from American Consul General at Hankow.⁶⁰

“March 7, 1 p.m. Recent activity of a force of about 800 Communist bandits in East Hupeh has resulted in threat to Hwangshihkong according to American Catholic missionaries there who telegraphed last evening asking that naval vessel be despatched if possible. This request was referred to Admiral [Allen]⁶¹ who is sending U. S. S. Tutuila from Hankow to investigate and report.”
