297. It is officially announced that the British Government has accepted the invitation of the Turkish Government to attend a Straits [Page 521] Conference at Montreux. This was originally planned for June 22, but with the semi-official intimations of a postponed Council meeting and the announcement of the League Council convening probably the end of this month, a postponement of the Montreux meeting is more than likely.
