The Acting Secretary of State to the Minister in Sweden (Steinhardt)
28. In connection with the Department’s forthcoming conversations with the Swedish Chargé on the matter of a reciprocal trade agreement, you are requested to prepare, in cooperation with the Consul General and the Commercial Attaché, a report listing the commodities on which tariff concessions might be requested from Sweden with specific suggestions as to the amount and character of such concessions to be asked. Your report should also summarize impediments and restrictions other than customs duties wherein there may be room for Swedish concessions. [Page 720] Any information which you may obtain, without reference to the Swedish authorities, as to concessions likely to be desired by Sweden from the United States, should likewise be included.
