The Acting Secretary of State to the Secretary of the Treasury.1
Washington, May 4, 1912.
Sir: With reference to recent correspondence on the subject of an American sanitary expert for the sanitation of Iquitos, Peru, I have the honor to inform you that the Legation at Lima telegraphs under date of the 3d instant that the President of Peru confides in the good [Page 1282] faith of any expert this Government might recommend as to the duration and terms of his employment, and that he authorizes the offer of a salary of seventy-five pounds sterling per month, or as much as one hundred pounds. The Legation adds that if this offer should be considered insufficient the President of Peru would consider a counter proposal.
