The Minister of Panama to the Assistant Secretary of State .

My Dear Mr. Secretary: I have had the pleasure of receiving your very courteous communication of the 13th instant by which you are pleased to inform me that [etc.]

No sooner had your very kind letter reached my hands than I communicated by cable with my Government announcing to it the intended visit of Secretary Knox to our capital, which intelligence, I am sure, has been received by my Government and the people of Panama with positive satisfaction; and I am anxiously looking forward to notice of the precise date on which the visit will be made so as to report it to my Government and enable it to make preparations for the reception due to so distinguished a guest.

I sincerely appreciate the flattering assurance, you are pleased to communicate to me in behalf of Mr. Knox regarding his impressions upon his visit to Panama, and I am glad to assure you for my part that my country will feel highly honored at having, although for a short time unfortunately, the Secretary of State of this great nation with us.
