Sir: I have to acknowledge the receipt of your No. 2696, of February 25 last, transmitting the reply of the Tsung-li Yamên to the measures suggested by this Department in its No. 1368 of November 25 last, for the prevention of antiforeign riots.

Before giving its views on the position taken by the Chinese Government on this important subject, the Department will await your report of the conference which your dispatch states it is your intention to have with the Yamên.
