No. 494.
Mr. Evarts to Señor de Zamacona.

Sir: I had the honor to receive upon the 15th instant the note of Mr. Navarro, the chargé d’affaires ad interim of Mexico, bearing date the 10th of the present month, in which, by direction of his government, he has informed me that it is the desire of Mexico that the treaty between it and the United States of July 10, 1868, concerning naturalization and citizenship, shall be terminated at the expiration of the twelve months, as provided for in article 5 of such convention.

Observing that due note has been taken of this announcement, I take the present occasion to offer, &c.

WM. M. EVARTS.
