Sir: I have the honor to inform you that several cases of cattle disease (peste bovine) have appeared at St. Petersburg, and that active measures have been taken to stamp it out. Orders have been issued:

1st.
To kill all animals infected or supposed to be infected, paying the owners therefor.
2d.
Forbidding the cattle at St. Petersburg to be allowed to graze in common.
3d.
Establishing a strict veterinary inspection in all parts of the city where the disease has already made, or may hereafter make, its appearance.

Some thirty cases have been reported thus far.
