Sir: Referring to my No. 961, wherein I reported the order of this government making the silver yen a legal tender, I now have the honor [Page 696] to further acquaint you that the same is being produced at the imperial mint of Japan at the rate of 30,000 per day, and that it is rapidly expelling from trade the Mexican dollar, so long the currency of this empire.

As the gold yen is also legal tender, this government has established the bimetallic standard in Japan.
