Mr. Williamson to Mr. Fish.
Belize, January 27, 1874. (Received February 20.)
Sir: I have the honor to report that, upon my arrival here yesterday evening, I met with a dispatch from Mr. Charles E. Follin, our consul, now residing at San Pedro, in Honduras, which fully confirms the intelligence communicated to you in my No. 99. The English vice-consul at Omoa, Mr. De Broot, also stated to me to-day the contents of a letter he had received within the last few days from General Solares, commanding the forces of Guatemala in the capture of Comayagua, in which that general details the result of the five days’ skirmishing, and mentions, in addition to the other facts stated in my No. 99, that General Straeber, of “Omoa” fame, was mortally wounded. General Straeber commanded the troops of President Arias, reduced at the time of the surrender, by desertions and casualties, to about two hundred men.
I expect to leave here on the 29th instant for Omoa.
