No. 778.
Mr. Fish to Aristarchi Bey

Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 19th instant and the document by which it was accompanied, the former presenting an interesting statement of the conclusions reached by the late international commission at Constantinople in regard to the measurement of vessels and dues upon the Suez Canal.

The hope which you express, that the United States will adopt the results which the commission arrived at, shall be taken into consideration. To that end, a copy of your note will be transmitted to the Secretary of the Treasury with a request for his views on the subject.

I avail, &c,

HAMILTON FISH.
