No. 467.
Mr. Foster to Mr. Fish.

No. 111.]

Sir: The 22d day of February was observed in this city by the unsolicited display of their respective flags by the Mexican government on all its public buildings, and by all the foreign legations, as a mark of respect to the memory of Washington.

The American citizens resident in this city commemorated the day by the annual meeting at this legation of the American Benevolent Society, an organization formed to relieve Americans who may be sick or in want. The society numbers sixty-two members at present.

I am, &c.,

JOHN W. FOSTER.
