Mr. Fish to Sir Edward Thornton.

Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 1st instant in answer to one addressed to you by this Department on the 30th ultimo, requesting at the instance of the Secretary of the Treasury certain information as to the action taken by the British government to carry into effect the provisions of article XXX of the treaty of Washington.

A copy of your note has been transmitted to the Secretary of the Treasury with a request that he will furnish this Department with an expression of his views on the suggestions contained therein.
