Mr. Seward to Mr. Adams.

No. 248.]

Sir: Your despatch of the 24th of April, No. 146, has been received. Your proceeding in asking from the British government the restoration of the prize ship Emily St. Pierre is approved, equally for its promptness [Page 88] and the grounds upon which it was adopted. The President does not allow himself to doubt that the claim will receive early and just consideration.

I am, sir, your obedient servant,

WILLIAM H. SEWARD.
