In response to allegation reported ref A, Embassy is authorized to make flat denial that there are any US military personnel in the Western Sahara providing technical assistance to Moroccan combat units.

In telegram 3893 from Algiers, November 2, the Embassy reported that at a recent social function an Algerian Foreign Ministry official “remarked to an Embassy officer present that if he would come to the Foreign Ministry ‘proof’ would be produced that U.S. military personnel are providing technical assistance to Moroccan combat units in the Western Sahara.
