6705 (In 71125). 1. At his urgent invitation, [COS] called on [1 line not declassified] also present at meet, which apparently arranged jointly by [Identity 1] and [Identity 2]. Subject of conversation was renewed plea for [CIA] to subsidize [cryptonym not declassified] electoral program. They made it even plainer than ever before that they fear [Identity 3] eliminate them from political scene. They also claim [Identity 4] is sympathetic to their plans which are to organize “moderate” bloc of provincial parties and create counterforce both to Conaco and to MNC/L groups. [COS] went over same arguments as used on previous occasions, that ODYOKE unwilling subsidize one good Congolese leader against another and that [cryptonym not declassified] role is to bring [Identity 4] and [Identity 3] together. Both [cryptonym not declassified] were unhappy with our conclusion, and [COS] believes they will be actively looking for support elsewhere. Big question is who will invest money against [Identity 3].
