Msg replies to Adenauer’s telecommunication Feb 27, 1952 cabled separately.2 Adenauer reply is to Lisbon 21 sent niact Bonn Feb 26, 1952.3 I am most grateful for your thoughtful and appreciative reply to my personal message from Lisbon. Under your expert leadership the Federal Government has indeed taken steps to strengthen the free world that will be remembered in history. I must add, too, that the progress of our recent undertakings owes an inestimable debt to your skillful statecraft, wisdom, and untiring effort. I trust we can all now look forward confidently to an early and successful conclusion of negotiations on both the Contractual Agreements and the European Defense Community Treaty. Sincerely yours”
