secret

413. Dept appreciates info contained Embtels 227, July 13 and 338, July 19.2 However, Dept believes that Emb’s statements contained in second from final para (ur 338), particularly last sentence thereof, do not accurately reflect position this Govt.3 US recognizes sovereignty RUSI over all former Neth East Indies (save regency Neth New Guinea) including territory of so-called “Rep of South Moluccas”. We wld not countenance at this time participation by Amers in any attempt to support or assist “Rep of South Moluccas” against the will or in violation of laws of RUSI.

You shld urgently communicate this view to rep mentioned Embtel 338.4

While Dept interested in Emb continued reporting this matter, Dept assumes Emb aware fact that Nikijuluw undoubtedly using his contacts with Emb to his own ends and presumably to those “Republic of South Moluccas” and that Emb is exercising all due precautions in contacts it may have with him or others who may be involved this question.
