The Secretary of State to the United States Represertative at the United Nations (Austin)

No. 165

The Secretary of State requests the United States Representative to the United Nations to transmit the enclosed check in the amount of $5,000,000 to the Secretary General of the United Nations as a contribution by the United States to the United Nations for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.1

A receipt from the United Nations for the enclosed check should be transmitted to the Department of State by the United States Mission to the United Nations. It is also requested that the United States Mission to the United Nations acknowledge receipt of the enclosure.

  1. The Department, in a telegram to Ambassador Blandford at Beirut on December 12, bad foreshadowed its $5,000,000 contribution. It also informed the Ambassador of its grave concern “at slowness with which some other countries are meeting their obligations. Poor payment record will seriously prejudice Cong reaction to US support for FY 1952 program. Assure every effort made to secure prompt collection”.
