296. Dept June 6 took up informally with Israeli Emb reported incident subject Amman tel 121 June 5,2 rptd you as 41. Dept emphasized report not verified but stated that if true undesirable consequences re Israel-Jordan relationship obvious. Israeli Emb said had not recd any info from Tel Aviv and promised teleg immed. Entirely agreed with Dept that incidents of this nature have very harmful effect upon possibilities further Israel-Jordan rapprochement.
