According Dening,54 Foreign Office, Canadian Ambassador originally suggested those ambassadors remaining China announce concurrently their impending withdrawal but timing departure left convenience individual ambassador. British Ambassador so informed Foreign Office and recommended concurrence (Nanking 12 [2], August 655). Foreign Office reaction unfavorable as placing too much importance on “unrecognition”. No decision, however, in absence Bevin.56
