Director American Section, Foreign Office, under instructions his superiors, asked me to express earnest hope U.S. Government that Ambassador Stuart visit Canton prior returning US for consultation. In agreeing transmit request, I pointed out that, in granting departure Ambassador, Communists might stipulate different itinerary. Knowing Department’s desires this regard, shall continue avoid definite reply Foreign Office.
