Reference Embtel 3260, August 17, 7 p. m.⁴⁴ FonOff today informed Embassy by telephone that FonMin Bevin⁴⁵ had approved US request that British Consuls, China, take custody US Government properties specified cities. FonOff sending immediate telegraph instructions to its representatives concerned Formal acceptance of US proposal will be sent later and copy airmailed Department.⁴⁶
