177. Mytel No. 75, May 26 and my A–25, June 8, 1945.79 Foreign Minister told me today that he was hopeful ACC would very soon authorize Hungarian Govt to establish unofficial Hungarian representation not only in Washington but also in other capitals including those of neighboring states. He intimated his belief that Soviet Govt for reasons of prestige desired to have Hungarian representation established at Moscow before any representatives were sent to other countries. He solicited our assistance, presumably in ACC, to expedite authorization requested by Hungarian Govt which is particularly anxious to establish representation in Washington to deal with welfare cases.
