Mr. Alexander C. Kirk, Political Adviser to the Supreme Allied Commander, Mediterranean Theater, to the Secretary of State

3169. Reference your 679, July 18, 8 p.m.80 Up to present time no telegram has been received by General McNarney from Agwar81 with regard to Rome airport. In the meantime we have learned from our British colleague that instructions have been received from British Foreign Office to inform SAC (Supreme Allied Command) that if Italy is to be opened generally to civil air services (reference your 1112 to Rome)80 British Govt considers that it will presumably be possible for Italian Govt to release an air field altogether separate from military control for international civil use.
