The Minister in Sweden (Johnson) to the Secretary of State

696. When I saw Von Post this afternoon he informed me that the Swedish Minister had made an approach without the support of the Swiss Minister or the Papal Nuncio in regard to the Jews who were the subject of my 507, February 9, 7 p.m., and related correspondence. These representations, in which it appears Kleist,49 who has close relations with Himmler, was concerned, has had result that according to Von Post Germans have consented to 2,000 Jews being removed from concentration camps in Germany to Sweden. I will endeavor to secure further details regarding these 2,000 and, if possible, the names of the camps from which they are to be taken.
