402. At request of President have called meeting Diplomatic Corps3 to determine position toward extending good offices in effort [Page 1133] to reach settlement, disorders increasingly serious, sporadic firing in city and police using tear gas bombs. As I left Ubico a delegation from opposition was at the Palace to confer with him. If accord reached intervention Diplomatic Corps will not be necessary.
