234. You are authorized to approach the Saudi Government requesting establishment of direct radiotelegraph service between the United States and Saudi Arabia, with notification to Cable and Wireless before December 1. Details of new station and its operation to be settled later if necessary as suggested in your 317 October 22 and 322 October 28.1 For your information it is understood that it would take at least 5 months for station to be shipped from this country and placed in operation in Saudi Arabia by which time war in Europe might well be over. You are further advised that question of direct circuit and British objection thereto is being taken up with London in strongest possible terms. You will be kept advised of developments.
