The Minister in Egypt (Tuck) to the Secretary of State

2931. From Eddy.93 Reliable confidential source informs me London has replied (a) objecting to a Saudi Government radio station and (b) asking that their objection be kept secret. Since notice to terminate monopoly of Eastern Telegraph must antedate December 1, I recommend following immediate steps.

1.
Department request from British Government “no objection” to Saudi Government radio station for communication with countries not served by Eastern Telegraph, including the United States of America.
2.
Legation Jidda be instructed to ask Saudi Government whether they have London reply and whether they plan radio station.
