3443. Deles No. 34. From the Under Secretary. During their talks on Saudi Arabia Sir Maurice Peterson and Murray agreed as to the desirability of accelerating consideration of the Saudi Arabian financial [Page 692] problem, and particularly of the proposals for the establishment of a currency system, now under discussion between the Department and the Treasury and the British Embassy.83 Since this is closely related to the question of a goods subsidy program and the contemplated shipment of further supplies of silver from the United States, which the British consider undesirable, I hope the Department can expedite action on this subject in Washington.
