317. Department’s 243, April 21. Prime Minister, who has been ill for some time, has now advised me informally that he personally is agreeable to extension of Schwarzkopf contract but will investigate matter and furnish Legation with an official opinion in the near future. Saed states he has been impressed by Schwarzkopf’s eagerness and industry and would like to see him remain in Iran although, he states, no manifest results of his efforts have been visible to date.
