5828. For the Ambassador and Phillips. Drew Pearson’s column today prints large part of Phillips letter to President26 on Indian situation in which he advocated that British King Emperor issue declaration with respect to later independence for India after the war.
This publication was made without any prior knowledge of the Department and we do not know how Pearson came into possession of copy of this letter addressed to the President.
