The Secretary of State to the American Representative on the Advisory Council for Italy (Kirk)

444. Department somewhat concerned over statement made by Jackson (Caserta No. 1515, November 27—UNRRA from Jackson No. 9532a) that continuance of use of Swedish ships is not related to continuing [Page 212] operations of Swedish-Swiss Commission. As stated in our No. 33 to Athens33 the question of Swedish ships is now under discussion with Swedish Government and it appears that continuance of Swedish-Swiss Commission at least in & nominal capacity may be necessary in order to assure continued use of the ships. You will be advised of any further developments.

Repeated to Athens.
