4606. American Interests—Far East. Foreign Office note July 12 states that contents of Department’s 2189, June 27, forwarded Swiss Minister, Tokyo, who replies he submitted it Japanese Foreign Office. Gorgé adds Japanese Government in usual manner will probably request reciprocity so that it would be of interest inform Japanese Government manner American Government intends to repatriate via Soviet territory Japanese subjects now in the United States.

In handing above mentioned note to Secretary, Swiss Foreign Office official added that Gorgé reports Japanese did not understand “taking advantage of railroad connections between Japanese-held territory and Soviet territory”.
