5986. From Pell. War Crimes Commission Publicity Committee met July 26. Will make statement on work of Commission including section on powers of Commission and specific statement that so far it has not been authorized to consider offenses committed in Axis territory against Axis nationals because of race, creed or politics.
Czechoslovakia representative will announce his Government’s support on granting such powers. I understand United States Government will not object to such extension of powers. I shall certainly be asked questions at press conference Thursday August 3, 11 a.m. Please send official statement. [Pell.]
