The Secretary of State to the British Ambassador (Halifax)
The Secretary of State presents his compliments to His Excellency the British Ambassador and has the honor to refer to the Embassy’s note No. 526, Reference: 2609/24/44, dated August 19, 1944, concerning the proposal for a governmental statement in connection with the shooting of German prisoners by the French Forces of the Interior in retaliation for the execution of patriot French prisoners by the Germans.
The Government of the United States concurs in the position taken by the British Government and prefers to make no further public statement with regard to this matter.
