The Chargé at Tangier (Childs) to the Secretary of State

350. From the point of view of our own negotiations we can see no possible objection to the proposal made in Madrid’s 1149, August 10 [20]. Inasmuch as Orgaz himself has stated that he has referred our proposal to his Government it is quite probable that he would welcome the assurances suggested by the Ambassador, particularly if there appears to be any such suspicion on the part of the Madrid Government as that mentioned in the telegram under reference.

Repeated to Tangier [Madrid?].
