6337. Department’s 5504, November 4, noon, concerning announcements of arrival of American troops in Liberia was promptly brought to the attention of the Foreign Office. The Foreign Office now informs us that steps are being taken to prevent recurrence of such incidents [Page 401] which are much regretted and that inquiries are being made with a view to clearing up the matter. A full statement on the subject is promised at the earliest possible date.
