The Secretary of State to the Chargé in Liberia (Hibbard)
166. Your 198, June 18, 5 p.m. War Department requests that Liberian Government be informed that no bombing planes are available for assignment to Roberts Field at present. United States aircraft will arrive in Liberia in adequate numbers as soon as training of unit is complete. Meanwhile arrangements have been effected with the British to provide air patrols in addition to which a certain amount of anti-aircraft equipment is en route to Liberia.
For your personal and confidential information it is not expected that the United States air unit referred to will have completed its training, which includes a course in dive bombing, before next fall.
